Smacked by Melinda FergusonI finished the book in 2 days – IT IS MIND–BLOWING. Although, at times I could not belive that someone could go through all of that and still be alive – it almost seems far–fetched because clearly her brain is fried after that much drug–abuse! But it is certainly a vivid and entertaining read, and one that should definitely become a set work for all kids – if that doesn't serve as a deterrent from drugs then people are really just stupid! I think the author has been given another chance at life (she most certainly should not be alive after that lifestyle!!!) and she has already started using it well just by telling her story. It is harrowing and heart–warming at the same time, and she should be commended for not "glamourising" the drug lifestyle – as so many of these type of books seem to do. as I said earlier, it almost seems unreal that a person would not only go through that and survive, but then go on to tell the story. Half of me wants to hug her and say well done for getting out of there alive and for telling your story as a lesson, the other half wants to bash her on teh ehad for being so blatantly irresponsible! Not only should she have died a few times, but to bring children into this world in those circumstances is the most selfish and reckless thing a woman could ever do. And yet, it is those very facts that make the story real and hard–hitting. Well done to Melinda – may she use this second chance to build a strong and happy life, and may her relationship with her sons be built on love and forgiveness! |
